Transportation and Environmental Justice in Worcester, MA a GIS Project

This slide show was developed to support grassroots efforts at improving health and transportation access issues in Worcester, MA. The data shows that while infrastructure exists to serve the most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Worcester, the most heavily used routes are not serving those neighborhoods as they should due to schedule, cost, and other issues with the system. Additionally, it is clear that lower income communities throughout Worcester County suffer from higher rates of childhood asthma. Often this corresponds to proximity to major roads, however these areas also have a higher number of hazardous material and household waste disposal sites in or nearby.
